“The first sacrament, the one you have closest to hand, is Confession. I advise you to receive it often, and I can advise that because I too go to Confession at least once a week. If you aren’t made of completely different material, you will also need to say sorry to God, and ask him for forgiveness and help. In the Holy Sacrament of Penance it is God who forgives us. No matter whether it is this priest or that, it isn’t the priest who takes away our sins: it is always Jesus Christ our Lord who says to us: ‘I absolve you, I forgive you for your sins’.” Saint Josemaría said this at San Vicente, in Cañete, Peru, when he met people from the valley and the mountain districts. Some had come on foot from nearby villages: Cochahuasi, Boca del Rio, Lunahuana, Pacaran. Others made an eight-hour journey by car, by mule or on foot, to get to Valle Grande in time for the gathering there.
