On this day

During the Spanish Civil War Saint Josemaría had to go into hiding because of religious persecution. Three days after arriving in his final refuge, the Honduran Legation in Madrid, he wrote a letter to some of the people of Opus Dei who were living in Valencia. He wrote in a sort of coded language to evade the censor: “I saw poor Josemaría, and he assured me that he is no longer in the insane asylum (this is his current obsession) but has gotten into deep waters [Honduras]. He is very happy. The Doctor lets me see him every day.” (The last sentence meant that he was able to say Mass every day.)
