In a gathering with professional men in Mexico Saint Josemaría recalled: “My father’s business went very badly. And I thank God for it, because that taught me what poverty was; otherwise I’d never have known. Can you see what a good thing that is? Now I love my father even more… He was such a marvellous man that he maintained great serenity and endured all difficulties with the peacefulness of a Christian and a gentleman.”
