“Being a good Christian means being a good student, being happy, with the good qualities of young people, of which there are plenty. When I hear people saying bad things about young people today I get annoyed, because you do the same things as we all did, those of us who are no longer young, when we were your age. So don’t worry. Young people have many virtues, and what’s more you have drive and enthusiasm. Study, don’t lose your cheerfulness, and use your friendliness to take Christ’s teaching everywhere.” He said this in a gathering with students in Moncloa university residence during a journey through Spain and Portugal that he began on this day, during which, for two months, he carried out an intense catechesis, meeting thousands of people to speak to them about God.
