During Sunday's Angelus, Benedict XVI made an invitation to live a balanced lifestyle in solidarity with everyone in society while not worrying about the stresses of money. In his speech he recalled that Jesus invited all Christians to lead a simple life without riches.
“This teaching of Jesus, while it remains true and valid for everyone, is practiced in different ways depending on our different vocations: A Franciscan friar may follow it more radically, while a family man will have to take account of his duties towards his wife and children,” said the Pope.

The Pope said being detached from material things also means working to improve one's personal life, something that helps liberate the person.

“Faith in Providence, does not, in fact, dispense us from the arduous struggle of living a dignified life, but frees us from our attachment to things and our fear of tomorrow.”
Benedict XVI said, this way of living in poverty is possible for everyone and is meant to take better care of the needs of society.

“Jesus showed us what it means to live with our feet firmly planted on the ground, attentive to the real situation of our neighbors and, at the same time, with our hearts in heaven, immersed in God's mercy.”
Before saying good-bye, the Pope recalled that Sunday was also the World Day for Rare Diseases and he called for continued scientific research in the field.
