Each vest or shirt that I iron has a name
Martine Liminski, Germany
January 27, 2002
In my daily work at home, each vest or shirt that I iron has a name, the name of the person it belongs to. Every meal I cook with care and concentration gathers real people around the table, and those little jobs done with love are big prayers for them all.I know that by bringing up the ten children God has entrusted to our care, I am not changing the face of the world, but I’m convinced that with the big and little sacrifices done at the right time, with all the love God gives me, everything really does change for each of those people.
People often don’t recognize the value that home-making has, but God knows just how much love goes into it. What matters is not achieving perfect results, nor what other people think of it. What really matters is being a good instrument to make others feel that God is there and that he is loving them through us.
Saint Josemaria’s teaching has helped me to discover the hidden treasure of work that nobody can see. Each task, even the smallest and most insignificant one, or the most unpleasant, has an eternal value. It is a unique opportunity to show God my love for him and for everyone he enables me to meet.
For all of this I owe an immense debt of gratitude to Saint Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer.
