A Letter from Thailand

Feast Day Mass of St Josemaria in Bangkok, Thailand
About 100 people attended the Mass that was celebrated in honor of St. Josemaria in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday 26 June, at 8 a.m. The parish priest of Holy Redeemer Church agreed for this Mass to be at the 8 am slot.
Meg, one of the participants, wrote this letter about the preparations for this Mass in Thailand:
“Father Willy Ong, a priest from the Philippines, celebrated the Mass of St. Josemaria. Father George Okoroigwe, assigned to the parish by the Redemptorists in Nigeria, concelebrated with him.
Father Ong gave a touching homily about the beginnings of the Work and the life of St. Josemaria. The Prayers of the Faithful were read by Mr Nemy Lim, who has just taken early retirement to return to the Philippines with his family after 8 years being assigned in Ho Chih Minh and Bangkok. He was leaving that afternoon. My husband Titoy and daughter Isa led in the singing of Mass hymns. They also distributed the one-page Mass Guide to everyone.
We asked for the altar to be decorated by Khun Psi, the Thai lady in charge of the church and the flowers. We met with Khun Psi on Thursday and described how we would like to have red roses. Baby Muangsiri bought the flowers in the flower market at 6 a.m. on Friday, before she started her working day at the UN, then Khun Psi made a truly beautiful arrangement. Khun Psi also lent us the easel for the picture of St. Josemaria.
After the Mass, refreshments were served outside the church and Father Ong mixed with some of the parishioners who were able to stay. We also gave out leaflets about Opus Dei and St. Josemaria. We also shared some copies of "Passionately Loving the World," St. Josemaria’s 1968 homily.
I'm sending some photos of the altar and some people who attended the mass: the young De La Fuente family who also left for their reassignment to Manila that day. Two others are not in the photo, Rica and Helen from Kenya, but they were at the Mass and stayed afterwards. Rica took care of designing and printing the invitations that were distributed to friends and in bringing the juice drinks.
We are already planning for next year, and thinking that we would ask to have the Mass at the Saturday 8 a.m. time again next year, rather than moving it to another day.
Regards, Meg”
