The French publishers Le Laurier have brought out the first Arabic edition of St Josemaría Escrivá's book The Way of the Cross, in Lebanon. The book follows Jesus Christ through the hours of his Passion, from his condemnation by Pilate to the moment when his dead body is taken down from the Cross, received by his Mother in her arms, and afterwards entombed.

St Josemaría’s The Way of the Cross was first published posthumously in Spanish in 1981, six years after his death. It consists of fourteen passages on the fourteen Stations of the Cross, each passage followed by a number of points for meditation. To date, thirty-two editions have been published in Spain, and several dozen others in different languages throughout the world, from English and French to Malayalam (India) and Eastern Armenian (Armenia and Georgia). It is excellent news that The Way of the Cross is now being published in Arabic, a language spoken by hundreds of millions of people, in a country that has suffered so much from wars.

The Servant of God Bishop Alvaro del Portillo wrote in his prologue to the book: “This new posthumous work of St. Josemaría, like the previous ones, seeks to help people to pray and, with God's grace, to grow in a spirit of reparation – of love-sorrow – and of gratitude to our Lord, who has rescued us at the cost of his Blood.”
