The Mass in honor of St Josemaria in Hong Kong was held on June 27, 2011 at the Cathedral of Hong Kong. The main celebrant was Rev. John Tong, Bishop of Hong Kong. Several friends shared their experiences and reflections after the Mass.

Valeria C. has been thanking St. Josemaria with the good experience of the Mass in Hong Kong. Valeria is newly baptized and married. Her husband's reaction to the first Mass he ever attended (as he is not a Catholic) happens to be the Mass in honor of St Josemaria.

She wrote to her friend in Opus Dei: “The Mass was very nice. I am glad that my husband, also feels good after attending it, but he said there were some parts he did not enjoy much because he could not see the priests and what they were doing. You know I was very impressed with him. He did try his best to participate in the Mass!! He doesn't know the hymns but he tried to sing them. I know it is quite hard for him to take part in the whole Mass for the first time, so he had tried his best already. He asked me many questions during the Mass. Thank God….. Anyway, it is a good start. I also ask him about attending the catechism classes and he agreed ! (…) Let me ask him to come along to our meetings and start the catechism bit by bit next week”.

Lucia K. helped in the sale of books of St Josemaria relates: “I was glad to see that the new biography made a very good sale. The whole pile of the biography of the Founder of Opus Dei was gone in less than an hour !! Then, I learned that the Spanish author wrote this biography from an angle of humanity… we can see how much we strive to know more about the life of our founder, and how much we like to follow his good example”.

She continued: “I also saw members and cooperators of Opus Dei, bringing their second and third generation children to attend this special Mass. These young children came not for fun, not for games but to attend Mass with their parents. After the Mass, my mom asked me how come nobody left right after… they kept on lingering at the church premises. Yes, we were busy chatting, greeting each other….it is like a family!”

Another friend for the special occasion is Crystal, one of the choir members. On her own initiative, she made hundreds of copies of the Mass songs for the people to follow. She made specially designed songbooks for the priests. She put a lot of care in doing them, making a photocopy of the invitation card of our Father as the front cover of the song booklet. They were so well-done that everyone thought they were made by professionals. Her daughter, Prudence, has been the organist for the Mass all these years. But this year, she had an important exam and was not able to practice much with the choir. However, she was able to join on the day of the Mass, and it seems like the choir sang with her playing the organ all the time.

Many friends of the choir members also helped to sing for the Mass for the 1st time. Everyone was receiving the encouragement that singing can also be offered for the glory of God. They were all happy and loved the atmosphere of the Mass. Afterwards, there was feedback received from the priests, that the choir sang especially so well and so beautifully this year.
