The Pontifical University of the Holy Cross publishes volumes covering the workshops on “Family and Culture of Life” and “Youth”.

In January 2002 a congress on “The Grandeur of Ordinary Life” was held in Rome, aiming to get to the heart of Josemaría Escrivá’s message. Some of the acts of the congress have already been published, including volumes containing the keynote presentations and papers on Saint Josemaría’s historical context, personality and writings, and on the dignity of the human person. Volumes have also been published covering the workshops on work and artistic creativity.

Over 100 academic papers were presented at the congress, but there were also 18 workshops with a total of 260 presentations reflecting on the relationship between the Christian faith and different dimensions of daily life. The thirteen volumes which will eventually be published will make these reflections available to a wider public, enable people who were unable to attend the congress to follow the proceedings, and offer help to all those who are looking for God in their ordinary lives, taking inspiration from Saint Josemaría’s teachings.

In his preface to the first volume of the congress acts, Mgr Lluís Clavell writes that a significant effort was made during the congress to reflect on the gifts received from God through Saint Josemaría, and this was another of the reasons for bringing out these thirteen volumes. Mgr Clavell, at the time Rector of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross which organised the congress, said at a press conference that “it is no coincidence that one of Josemaría Escrivá’s best-known homilies is called ‘Passionately Loving the World’, since his message leads people to reflect on the world from the standpoint of commitment, love and service.”
