Projects from around the world
Faculty of Communication at the University of Navarre

A persistent characteristic throughout these years is the spirit of permanent innovation, put at the service of media professionals. The very first instance of this was the actual creation of what was then known as the “Institute of Journalism”, by the express desire of the founder and first Chancellor of the University of Navarre, St Josemaria Escriva, who followed its growth with great interest and encouraged those responsible to set themselves very high goals.
It began small, in Pamplona’s counting-house, in 1958, with 24 students of 8 different nationalities. In the 2009-2010 academic year, the faculty has 1,200 undergraduates studying for the three Media degrees: Journalism, Audiovisual Communications and Advertising, and Public Relations. There are also postgraduates studying for Masters degrees and doctorates. About 200 lecturers are involved in the teaching, ready to attend to the academic needs of each of the students and with links both to research in communications, and the world of work.
Its special identity grew out of the founding charisma of St Josemaria: a passion for truth; love for freedom; long tradition in the humanities combined with technological innovation; teaching based both on research and on contact with reality; raising the profile of media-related professions through theoretical and applied research; ongoing relations with the professional and academic world alike; and close contacts between students and alumni.
