While he was in Burgos, Father Josemaría had no contact of any kind with Franco. He knew just three people in politics: Ramon Serrano Suner, who was Franco’s right-hand man, Enrique Gimenez Arnau, and Jose Lorente Sanz. He had met Serrano Suner years before when they were both teaching at the same institute in Zaragoza, but they had never been friends, and Father Josemaria had no contact with him in Burgos. Gimenez Arnau and Lorente Sanz had been at university with Father Josemaria in Zaragoza, and in Burgos he met Lorente Sanz again in connection with his efforts to get his book The Way published, but their dealings were restricted to that topic and no more.
