"Christ is Passing By", new Arabic translation
February 27, 2009
The publisher Le Laurier has just brought out an Arabic translation of St Josemaria's first book of homilies, Christ is Passing By, in Lebanon.
The book Christ is Passing By consists of a collection of 18 homilies given by St Josemaria between 1951 and 1971, on different feasts of the Church year. The first edition came out in 1973. To date, around 5000,000 copies have been published, in 14 languages.
The book was launched in Beirut, and the event was attended by the Maronite Archbishop of Beirut, Boulos Matar, who gave a talk introducing St Josemaria and his teachings. St Josemaria, he said, reminded people that all the Christian faithful should seek the holiness that "is practised through ordinary life and in fulfilling their duties. Those duties are in themselves a path to holiness."
Archbishop Matar invited his hearers to discover the book's "treasures" for themselves, by reading and meditating on it. He gave a rapid summary of the book's content, and said that the author's style "is characterized by its theological depth and the connection it makes between the Gospel and ordinary life, using language that everyone can understand."
