The cover of the book
Now though the people of Kerala have the opportunity of reading The Way of the Cross in Malayalam. It is the first book of the founder of Opus Dei to be translated into this language. Archbishop Kunnacherry has conducted the works that made possible this first translation. “My interest in the Opus Dei, as he explains, made me read all the published works of St. Escrivá. During the Lenten Season I used Via Crucis of the Saint for my private devotion. For the benefit of Malayalam speaking faithful, I got the book translated by Dr. Sr. Deepa, a member of the Diocesan St. Joseph’s Congregation. The book was released on 14th January 2006 on the occasion of the installation ceremony of my successor Mar Mathew Moolakkatt. His Eminence Varkey Cardinal Vithayathil, the Major Archbishop of Syro Malabar Church released the book. About 40 bishops were present at the ceremony”.
Malayalam belongs to the southern group of Dravidian languages. It is the official language of the state of Kerala.
The "Way of the Cross" contains brief commentaries on the Stations of the Cross. The first edition of the book appeared in 1981. More than 400,000 copies have been published in 19 languages.
