The head of the St Josemaria Institute sees Roland Joffé’s new movie There Be Dragons as a “user-friendly” way of evangelizing, following the recommendations of Blessed John Paul II.
Why is the St. Josemaria Institute promoting the movie?
The St. Josemaria Institute is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 2002 for the purpose of promoting devotion to St. Josemaria Escriva, the founder of Opus Dei, and to spread his message of seeking holiness in ordinary life.
An essential part of the mission of the St. Josemaria Institute is to promote the lives of exemplary bishops and priests. There are two events this year that coincide perfectly with these goals. The first is the beatification of Pope John Paul II, and the second is the release of the movie There Be Dragons.
There Be Dragons, while part fiction, focuses on the life of a young Spanish priest, St. Josemaria Escriva, and conveys the priestly virtues of forgiveness and fortitude in the midst of difficult circumstances, always accepting the challenges (dragons) encountered in life. This is a wonderful and timely opportunity to introduce a friend to the Gospel through the holiness of St. Josemaria as conveyed in the movie.
For this reason, friends of the St. Josemaria Institute are being asked if they would like to participate in promoting the movie so that people can better understand the holiness of St. Josemaria.
