Vatican Issues Saint Josemaría Stamp
On 18 November the Vatican Philatelic Department is issuing a stamp and postmark of Saint Josemaría. The design is by the artist Irio Fantini, on the basis of a sketch produced by the Vatican Philatelic and Numismatic Department. The postmark shows the face of the Founder of Opus Dei, with “DIE EMISSIONIS” (“First Day Cover”) above, and “POSTE VATICANE * 18 NOVEMBRE 2003” underneath.
Those wishing to order the stamp, and the first day cover, can contact the Vatican Post Office until December 3 on Fax +39-06-698-85378 or Telephone +39-06-698-83406.
With this new issue the Vatican joins Italy, Spain, the Dominican Republic, the Philippines, Guatemala, Panama and Uruguay, all of which issued commemorative stamps and postmarks on the occasion of Saint Josemaría’s centenary and canonization. Other countries which have issued commemorative stamps are Poland, El Salvador, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Venezuela (which issued two series). On 11 October this year, the Peruvian National Philatelic Commission also issued a stamp with a picture of Saint Josemaría.
