Bethlehem: the Shepherds’ Fields

J. Gil

Bethlehem and its surroundings occupy a gently undulating landscape. Terraces have been cut into the sloping sides of some of the ridges, and planted with olive-trees; the flattest parts of the valleys are divided into fields; and the parts of the ground that are too rocky for cultivation are dotted with different plants, shrubs and trees, including pines, cypresses, and many Mediterranean species of bush. The canonical solution of Opus Dei

Pilar Urbano

By the Apostolic Constitution Ut Sit, dated 28 November 1982, Pope John Paul II set up Opus Dei as a personal prelature. This meant that, in accordance with its foundational charisma, the Work was recognized by the Church”s Canon Law as a secular structure: personal, i.e. not defined by geography, and made up of a Prelate, priests incardinated into Opus Dei, and lay-people. To the members in Mexico he wrote: “Soon I will do the consecration to the Sacred Heart. Help me prepare for it” He added as a postscript: “SOS: We are still in water up to the neck. And also with the same trust in God our Father.” Tags: Suffering, Opus Dei, Poverty, Opus Dei members, Consecrations of Opus Dei

J. Gil

“When God’s appointed time comes to save mankind from the slavery of sin, we contemplate Jesus Christ in Gethsemani, suffering in agony to the point of sweating blood (cf. Lk 22:44). He spontaneously and unconditionally accepts the sacrifice which the Father is asking of him.” (Friends of God, no. 25) Tags: Faith, Prayer, Following Christ, The Will of God, Holy Week , Year of Faith, In the footprints of our Faith

St Josemaria first went to Fatima in 1945. He said that it had been the Blessed Virgin who opened the gates of Portugal to him.(1) This was because he went at the request of Sor Lucia, then living in Tui, Spain. He traveled to Portugal in February and visited Fatima although it had not been in his plan to do so. He went back to Fatima on several occasions afterwards, impelled by his great love for our Lady. Jerusalem: The Via Dolorosa (1)

J. Gil

Down through the centuries, that is how the saints, and many thousands of Christians with them, have contemplated the redemptive death of Jesus on the Cross and his Resurrection: the Paschal mystery, which is at the heart of our faith (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 571). With the passage of time the faithful’s meditation on those events has developed into various devotional practices, foremost among which is the Stations of the Cross.
