Recognition of the martyrdom of Archbishop Oscar Romero

The Holy Father Francis has authorized the Congregation for the Causes of Saint to promulgate a decree of martyrdom for the Servant of God Oscar Romero, who was assassinated out of hatred for the faith on March 24, 1980, while celebrating Holy Mass. "I had the good fortune of knowing Monsignor Escriva de Balaguer personally and of receiving from him support and fortitude to be faithful to the inalterable doctrine of Christ and to serve with apostolic zeal the Holy Roman Church," he said about St. Josemaria.
